We had to write an essay about our most important posession- and I chose Molly. Here it is-- ignore the box things-- they came up when I copy & pasted it.
It was the Christmas Eve of my seventh year. Myself-- along with everyone in my grade, filled their Christmas wish lists with "trendy" electronics. The surprise I opened that evening- is the only present I still enjoy from that year.
� The traditional Christmas Eve gathering was in my family room, and everyone was chatting away and eating the food that was made by my mother. We had the privilege to open the long rectangular boxes- one for each of us- from our grandmother.
� After weeks of shaking the box, having no clue what it was, I raced to the tree, and brought back the box with my name printed on the wrapping paper. I tore the box open, and lifted the lid.
� Resting inside the cardboard box was Molly- the World War Two era American Girl doll. Her round, sliver glasses framed her warm gray eyes, and her two symmetrical brown braids rested on her shoulders. She adorned a red, white, and blue sweater and skirt outfit. In my eyes, she was perfect.
� My memory flashed back to in the fall of that year, when my mother read me the very first book in the "Molly" series, Meet Molly. I then also remembered when my mother- out of the blue- asked me who my favorite American Girl was. Molly was the only one I knew- so I promptly replied that she was my favorite.
� After that, Molly has been a special companion to me. We have shared tears, laughs, and hugs. I have also taken her to miscellaneous places, including friends' houses, and the American Girl Place in Chicago twice.
� I can clearly remember, going to the American Girl Place for the first time when I was still seven. We got our picture taken together in matching outfits- to be put on the cover of a souvenir issue of the American Girl Magazine. Another thing we did was eat side by side in the American Girl Caf�.
� Over the seven years, I discovered that Molly developed a problem in her eye, where the pupil starts to separate from the iris, making the pupil smaller, called "bubble eye". At first, I was disappointed but I talked to my mom about sending her in to get it fixed- because it is a manufacturing fault- and is fixed at no charge.
� My mom replied, "What if something happened to her- Molly's a part of your history,". I realized she was right. Molly has been with me for about half of my life, I can't have her fixed because of some little thing. It's what makes my doll unique, and I should embrace that- not change it.
� Over the years, Molly has gotten lots of "sisters" (other dolls) I've collected, and even a doll of her friend, which they released in honor of the movie coming out this fall. No matter what, Molly will always be my favorite doll, because she is so special to me. That's why Molly is one of my favorite possessions.

Great essay. DD is doing her 1st ever oral book report tomorrow. It's on Jess. I wonder how many girls have used American Girl as their inspiration. I also love how a doll becomes like a member of the family. Your Molly sounds so special. I love it!

It's graded on a computer program that we have in the cirriculim for our class. I got a five out of six on this essay. (probably a B+-A)
